having difficulties locating an ICD-9 dx. code for history of shingles

I am having difficulties locating the diagnosis code for a personal history of shingles; I originally coded V12.09 because I know that shingles is an infectious disease and is in the herpes family. Any suggestions?

Looks fine to me

But why would you want to code that at all? Once it is gone, it is gone; if you have residual pain then it is 053.19 post-herpetic neuralgia

You most certainly would code for personal history of Shingles-053.0/B02.1. The virus never leaves so it would be an active diagnosis manifested by the intermittent eruption of the pustules. It is unknown if your patient has the post-herpetic neuralgia, but it would be coded in addition to the Shingles code.
