EGD with Bravo Capsule Placement
Hello,
It is an ongoing discussion/question in our GI practice, whether or not the physicians can bill for an EGD to place the Bravo capsule. It seems that a physician needs to perform an EGD to evaluate the symptoms which are prompting the need for a Bravo capsule. In order to place the capsule, the physician needs to know where in the LES or SC junction to place it. Correct?
So, THE BIG WHAT IF: An EGD is performed to investigate symptoms, an EGD is billed on the date it was performed with ICD-9s representing patient's symptoms using perhaps, 43235. At the same time, the physician MAY decide to place a Bravo capsule, 91035. The DOS for the claim for the Bravo capsule will be when the recorder is retrieved 2-4 days later and the physician captures and analyzes the report. CORRECT??
I look forward to any and all responses!
Thank you!
Lynn
