Trigger Point Dry Needling
Is anyone familiar with Trigger point dry needling? A physical therapist I know has been trained in these techniques, and it is approved in many states to be preformed by a PT. My question is how to code it, and get reimbursed. Some insurance companies will accept the 20552 and 20553, but others say it is a surgery code, and will not pay for a PT doing it. The technique inserts a dry needle, similar to an accupuncture needle into the muscle to release the spasm. There is no medication used. He is working in a pain management clinic, and the billing company they use is giving them grief about billing it. Can anyone give me information on this?
