Facility charges for OB oupts
We have outpatients coming to the hospital OB dept for a variety of reasons. If a patient comes in @ 0800 to be observed for perhaps nausea/vomitting or false labor. Telephone orders from provider but no visit by provider. At 2pm an IV is initiated and run for 2 hours of hydration. Additionally pt is given and IV push med for nausea. Can a facility E/M code be used acuity services? Would you deduct the time spent for the IV services?
Facility E & M
The facility can charge an E & M for the staff time to monitor the patient. The drugs & supplies would be billed in addition to the E & M.
