A Codes vs. Q Codes
Hello,
We heard thru another source that when billing for casting supplies to an HMO or PPO insurance we should use A codes.
Example:
Q4021 - Cast sup, short arm splint, adult, plaster...we should be using
A4580, instead.
In addition, is it true that Q codes are mainly to be used when billing Medicare/Medicaid claims?
Thanks.
Q codes
Code A4580, A4590, A4570 are not valid codes for Medicare.
Q codes are for Medicare claims only. These codes are used to identify professional healthcare procedures and services that would otherwise be coded in CPT but for which there are no CPT codes. These are temporary codes.
Q Codes
I appreciate your response.
This information is very helpful.
Thank you.
