E-mail communication of PHI with patient

Is written permission from a patient is sufficient to allow for e-mail communication of personal health information?

Nope! Something gets lost or stolen or hacked and that permission slip won't protect you from a HIPAA violation.

What happens if a signed piece of paper gets lost? A piece of paper can get lost just as easy as an email. What's the difference?

Also, can't they print the email and put it in the patients chart?
