Consultation as additional work-up
When the primary care physician orders a consultation(s) for a specific problem from a specific specialist, is this considered additional work-up?
Additional workup
Order tests to aid diagnosis and treatment - additional workup. Additional workup is defined as anything that is being done beyond that encounter at that time. For example, if a physician sees a patient in his office and needs to send that patient on for further testing, that would be additional workup. A consultation is asking for an opinion beyond the date of encounter, in my opinion, that is "additional workup" because the primary care is still the managing physician.
