mesh
I am trying to code for "removing eroded mesh through the vagina" and it looks like the only one I can use is the 57295 with a dx code of 939.0, does anyone have another suggestion that might help me?
re: mesh
Please clarify: (1) removing mesh via vagina; or (2) removing mesh which eroded into vagina (more likely). If removal / revision of bladder sling for urinary incontinence, look at 57287.
re: mesh
Thank-you, you are correct in your assumption, but this was done as an office procedure and now recall wed have been denied using the 57295. Perhaps using a higher consult code? with the dx to support it?
re: mesh
I realize your situation is a bit different, but CPT® does advise using the appropriate E&M code for removal of foreign body without anesthesia. Perhaps that would be the most appropriate choice.
re: mesh
We just obtained benefits for a surgical patient. We used 57295 and dx code 996.76
re: mesh
996.76 specifically excludes complications of vaginal mesh and directs to look at: 629.31 - 629.32
re: mesh
Sorry I forgot to add this was done as an office procedure. Normally I would agree, however we have been denied in the past using it as an office procedure.
re: mesh
These were the actual notes from the dr. for the office visit new patient:
Foreign body removal (erosion of vaginal sling mesh) in office. With two assistants, vaginal mesh erosion was identified, cleansed with betadyne. Pickups and scissors used to trim the mesh below the mucosal margins in both vaginal sulci. Patient tolerated well without anesthetic as I was able to isolate the mesh from the mucosa without an incision. Small amount of bleeding. No obvious infection.
re: mesh
I bill this procedure pretty often using 57295 and 629.31.
