Ceritified Coder

I am interested in becoming a certified coder but have been unable to locate a institution in Memphis, TN that only offers this course. Most colleges or technical schools offer a 2 year program to include medical office. I have been in the business for 20 years and just want to obtain my certification. Are you aware of any organizations or is this mostly handled online? If so, how effective is online training?

CPC credentials

If you have been coding for 20+ years then you should just go ahead and take the CPC test which is offered by the AAPC. Contact them and find out when they will be testing in your area.

Certified coder

I got certified in Memphis as a certified medical coder through Practice Management Intitute. It took 5 weeks , 1 day a week and test on the 5th week. You can contact them to see if they will be in Memphis anytime soon at 800.259.5562. I have to earn 12 CEU'S a year and the yearly dues is $75.00. The cost of the classes was 899.00 but that has been around 7 years ago.

You can also try Health Choice. They give a week long course and on the fifth day you take the test given by PMI. The instructor is Regina Mixon. I am not sure but I do not think it cost as much as 899. They also can get you certified through AAPC.
