Codebooks

I am a current student at the moment. For some reason, I am really confused as to which codes to use for each entry. How do you know which codes to use for inpatient versus outpatient. Do they all need an E/M code? I am just not confident on which codebooks to use for each entry I am trying to code. Thanks for your help!

re: Codebooks

Your question doesn't make a lot of sense. What do you mean by codebooks? In general, the following is true:

If the patient has not been admitted to the facility then you would use the outpatient codes. If the patient has been admitted then they are considered an inpatient and you would use the inpatient codes.
