Office consult and admit on same date

Can a physician see a pt in the office, charge a consult and direct admit that pt
and the on call Dr get paid for admission on the same day. Both Drs are in the same practice.

No. You either bill the consult or the admit.

If it is a separate physician, that bills under separate Tax Id, then he can get paid..he has never seen the patient before. But if the physicians bill under the same Group information, the Admit cannot be billed the same day that the "Group" provided a consult.

Only one E/M per physician (or partner of the same specialty, same group) per day.

If the MD was in internist and the pulmonary doctor did the admission, both would be paid.

Some of the commercials will deny for coverage: IM doctor from practice A sees patient in office, sends to hospital, IM covering doctor from practice B does admission: the commercials see it as covering and only pay for one.
