Inpatient H&P and progress note

our physicians see patients at area hospitals, we can access the patient records online.

my question is, if the insurance is requiring dr notes, are we allowed to print them from the hospital file or are we required by law to request them from the hospital?

Help!

thank you

I'd think you would at least want the hospital to be aware you were using the records for risk management purposes.

re: Inpatient H&P and progress note

I have access to all my hospitals. I have my own unique user id and password. They know that we need records for the patients that we see. Some bills have to go with records, example: work comp. Of course, you can't abuse it by looking up other ppl that are not your patients. Plus more and more these days, health insurance companies are requiring records and if your physicians have hospital priviledges you need access.

Hope this helps,
